SEDIAMEDEA WAS CREATED IN THE POST-WAR ERA, WHEN FORM MADE ITS PEACE WITH FUNCTION, AND CREATIVITY BOLDLY CONFRONTED TECHNICAL CONSTRAINTS, SPEARHEADING A REVOLUTION.
When creativity started entering the workshops in Brianza, just outside Milan, architects worked alongside artisans and together they brought industrial design to life. During these years, Medea set up Tagliabue Fratelli, a company specialised in cabinetmaking, and experimented with innovative techniques together with Vittorio Nobili.
Vittorio Nobili’s design led to the creation of a chair with a unique look. Made of solids and voids, with no corners, it had a curved, enveloping shell, and a perfect anatomical inclination. In 1956, the Compasso d’Oro jury gave the chair an Honourable Mention, in recognition of its aesthetic excellence.
The original moulds have been found in the Medea storage facilities and put back into use under the artistic guidance of Dimorestudio.
The famous Milanese design studio’s reinterpretation has given one of the most iconic chairs of the twentieth century a hyper-contemporary aesthetic.
The rich palette of nuances and new materials faithfully maintains the spirit of SediaMedea, fully respecting the lines, comfort and versatility that have always distinguished it.
Founded in Milan in 2003 by Britt Moran and Emiliano Salci, Dimorestudio is an architecture and interior design firm renowned for its distinctive ability to superimpose different styles and eras. Dimorestudio draws inspiration from the tradition of Milanese rationalist architecture and mid-twentieth-century design. However, the studio has also established a distinct and internationally recognised style of its own, blending elements from the past and present, harmonising colours, and juxtaposing contrasts. This approach creates a subtle blend of drama and restraint, opulence and self-control. The partnership between the studio and SediaMedea is based on common values and a shared vision for shaping the brand’s future.
