DIMORESTUDIO for sedia medea

Dimorestudio, the renown Milanese architecture and design studio, revisits the Medea Chair giving it a hyper-contemporary connotation while respecting the lines, comfort and versatility that have distinguished the product since its birth in the 1950s, thanks to the intuition of Vittorio Nobili. Reinterpreted through a selection of new materials, colors, combinations and audacious but non-contrasting details, the Medea Chair is given a new lease on its overall image, curated by Dimorestudio. A brand-new website, a catalogue and images that evoke the history of the product projecting it into the contemporary, with settings and creative choices that enhance the rich palette of shades and materials, and the fluid versatility of the combinations

The history of Medea is the story of a company from Brianza, area which is famous for the cabinet-making quality of its furniture.
Craftsmanship, uniqueness and exceptionality distinguish and survive in the artistic tradition of “furniture-making
Over the years, the company has reproduced a series of historical pieces that trace the history of furniture in the twentieth century and have the quality of the project and its materials as a common denominator. Medea’s production unfolds in a path between different styles and artistic movements, reaching up to the modern proposal of Lifestyle.
It is nice to think of Medea as a journey across history and time through the production of furnishings and artifacts that lead us to the present day.
Medea with its Contract division has specialized in the design and implementation of custom made projects, intended for prestigious Villas, commercial activities and international hotels located all over the world.

In the 1950s, the owners of Medea founded Tagliabue Fratelli, a company specialised in the production of curved wooden frames for tube televisions. This ability in woodworking and innovation of shapes materialised in 1956 with the creation of the Medea Chair, a seat with an unmistakable line characterised by “emptiness and fullness”.

The original moulds of the chair were recently recovered in the Medea warehouses and put back into operation under the artistic guidance of Dimorestudio.

Founded in Milan in 2003 by Britt Moran and Emiliano Salci, Dimorestudio is a full-service, global architectural and design studio that spans residential, retail and hospitality projects, in addition to, producing furnishings, textile and lighting designs under the name of Dimoremilano. The 19th-century location of Via Solferino in Milan’s Brera district is the heart of the business for the 40 plus person team as well as for Dimoregallery, the evocative setting which features a rotating installation of the collection of the great masters of the 20th century and contemporary designers, championed by the Gallery. The Company’s vision consists in bold, unexpected, colour saturated designs and in the creation of richly alloyed and layered atmospheres and spaces.

The sophisticated aesthetics of each project rests on the art of contradiction: it is dramatic yet contained, opulent yet controlled, fearless yet rooted in the cool classicism of 20th century antiques, and Milan’s own stern rationalist architecture and mid-century design lore.
